Cwm v Builth

CWM V BUILTH—31 October 2009

Cwm welcomed the Bulls to Bryn Park in a bottom of the table clash with victory being a priority to move the home side towards mid table respectability.

On a windy day on the Bryn it was however the visitors who opened the scoring with a penalty from winger John Thurston after 10 minutes, this facing the elements. Cwm responded with a fine kick from Peter Thomas five minutes later and then hit a purple patch half way through the opening period when some intricate three-quarter play saw two excellent tries from full back Rhydian James, both converted by Peter Thomas. With a  17-3 lead the home side  looked comfortable but a sin binning for prop Jonny Thomas gave Builth the opportunity to build pressure on the home try line. Fine defending saw Cwm prevail and a great opportunist try from lively scrum half Alun Sterle, also converted, saw the Blue and Blacks lead at the interval 24-3.

With the Bryn faithful hoping for another try and a bonus point victory the opening score of the second period saw Bulls flanker Luke Hammond drive over for a converted try on the hour and despite striving for the elusive fourth try, wrong options and poor execution saw Cwm failing to add to the scoreline and although gaining a deserved win, could and should have made it a five pointer.

FINAL SCORE: Cwmllynfell 24 Builth 10
